The USC Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability is seeking Dive Specialist and Dive Instructor positions at their Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island. Positions will be responsible to work with the USC Wrigley Institute research community to facilitate underwater research projects; supervise student research divers-in-training; recognize distress and respond to emergency calls and events; and ensure that proper safety methods and procedures are followed. Dive staff may also assist the Diving Safety Officer (DSO) with maintaining dive program equipment including ensuring all SCUBA, first aid, safety, rescue and communication systems are present and in proper working order.
 
These positions will create a pool of Dive Staff that can be pulled from on an as-needed basis to help teach Scientific Diving Courses (such as ENST 298), and to maintain safety ratios in the water. This is a part time (as-needed) position and is not eligible for USC benefits.

Requirements: 
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must have an active Divemaster or Scuba Instructor certification from an internationally-recognized organization
  • Scientific Divers with relevant training/experience and minimum 40 dives may also be considered
  • Must complete a checkout dive with the USC DSO
  • Must complete yearly Staff Training
  • Must complete and submit a Dive Medical from a board-certified physician
  • Must have a current CPR/AED/Diving First Aid/Emergency Oxygen Administration certification from an internationally-recognized organization 
  • Must commit to minimum 10 shifts/year
  • Must have Dive Accident Insurance
